    1877-S RPD FS-301 PCGS #145812 : This re-punched date is fairly tough to find in any grade.
    Ray Lathrop discovered this Repunched Date (RPD) FS-301 variety in 1996 and published an article about it in 1997 in the Gobrecht Journal Issue #70 (pgs.34-35). The Eric P. Newman Foundation arranged to have most issues of the Gobrecht Journal scanned and uploaded to the Stanford University Library and they can be downloaded for free. The pictures show Mr. Lathrop's article about his discovery of the 1877-S Trade Dollar RPD FS-301 with pictures of his example and the diagnostics of the variety which match this coin.
