Rare Vintage 3/4” French Ivory Real Horseshoe Club DiceHighly Collectible From The 1930's Era
The Horseshoe Club was a big casino style operation run by the William Johnson syndicate. It was at 4721 Kedzie on the north side of Chicago. No connection with Capone or the outfit. He was the biggest independent operator with about 20 casino style operations including the Horseshoe.
The earlier made Horseshoe Dice were made of the French Ivory. Later ones were made of another material.
French ivory is an early manmade material created to resemble expensive natural ivory. This faux ivory is made from celluloid, a cellulose and camphor thermoplastic dating to the 1860s, and widely used until the middle of the 20th century. It can be differentiated from natural ivory by its parallel lines rather than the crosshatched lines found in genuine ivory and by its lighter weight. Many antique and vintage items made from French Ivory are highly collectible.
Look Closely at the pictures and you can see the parallel lines of the french ivory dice.
The paint has aged off the monogram but the imprint is still visible on the 2s.
